Sex Is Empowering

It’s a common theme in romance novels for the heroine to feel sexually empowered when she makes the hero tremble, moan, or lose control. I was recently reading a discussion board where participants commented on things they didn’t like in romance novels. One person viewed the empowerment that heroine’s feel during sex as a man thing and poked fun at this. My response is that if a woman has never had a sexually empowering experience, she’s doing something wrong.

The idea that as a woman you can’t have a “whose is it” moment is archaic. I’ll admit that I’m not out there with my sexuality, nor am I a closet super-freak, but I’ve long understood the benefits of being a woman. I’ve gotten plenty of help from men by batting my eyes and smiling, and I realized early that I’m more likely to get something from men by flirting instead of being bitchy. Many women know the benefits gained by flashing a bit of skin with a smile. Think Claudette Colbert landing a ride for her and Clark Gable in It Happened One Night. Women taking ownership of their feminine power is nothing new. If you can utilize that power outside the bedroom, why can’t you utilize it in the bedroom? So ladies, the next time your man gets that look in his eye, take charge and ask him “whose is it”. Men don’t own that phrase. Believe me, the next day you’ll feel a bit cocky when you look at him and remember all the love faces he made.
